Union government appoints justice Dipak Misra as the new chief Justice of india , he will take the place of current chief justice J.S Khehar who is going to retire on august 27.his name was recommended by current chief justice J.S khehar . The 63-year-old CJI-designate is the senior-most judge of the Supreme court after Justice Khehar and He will be the third person from Odisha to be appointed the Chief Justice of India, after Justices Ranganath Misra and G B Pattanaik. He will be the 45th Chief Justice of India. He will have a 14-month tenure and will retire in October 2018. New chief justice Chief Justice dipak misra was the chief justice of Patna High Court in 2009 and became the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court a year later. Justice misra was the head of the supreme court bench that confirmed death to four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang-rape case in May . he was also member of three judges bench who were up all night in July 2013, giving a historic hearing to decide on terrorist Yakub Memon’s last-minute appeal against his hanging. Memon was convicted in 1993 Mumbai blasts, in which 257 people were killed, at that time Justice Misra who announced the court’s decision at 5 am: “Stay of death warrant would be a travesty of justice.
